Amazon Error 8541: Product data conflicts with Amazon’s catalog

Error 8541 appears when the UPC, EAN, ISBN, JAN, or ASIN in your file matches an existing catalog record, but one or more submitted attributes do not match that record.

What Amazon is telling you

Amazon matched your identifier to an ASIN, then compared your submitted product data with the catalog. The report normally names the conflicting field and shows both the merchant value and Amazon's catalog value.

Deleting and recreating the SKU does not resolve a catalog mismatch. First decide whether the matched ASIN is the product you actually intend to sell.

Why this happens

  • The product ID is mistyped or belongs to a different product.
  • The identifier is correct, but brand, manufacturer, title, color, size, or another identity attribute differs from the catalog.
  • The catalog value is wrong and your file is attempting to replace it without supporting evidence.

What to check first

01standard_product_id / product-id

Confirm every digit and confirm the ID belongs to this exact product and variation.

02product-id-type

Use the matching type: UPC, EAN, ISBN, JAN, or ASIN as defined by the template.

03Conflicting attribute

Read the field named in the processing report; do not change unrelated columns.

04SKU

Make sure the row is updating the intended offer and not reusing a SKU from another product.

Choose the correct path

  1. Open the ASIN named in the report and verify that it is the same physical product and variation.
  2. If it is the correct ASIN, change the conflicting value in your file to match the catalog and resubmit.
  3. If it is a different product, correct the UPC/EAN/ISBN/JAN or other identifying data. Do not force the listing onto the wrong ASIN.
  4. If the catalog is incorrect, collect manufacturer or brand evidence and open a Seller Support case for the specific attribute. Include the processing report and Batch ID.
Your fileWhat the catalog match requires
standard_product_id = your submitted GTINMust identify the ASIN Amazon matched
brand / manufacturerMust describe the same product and brand
title / model / variationMust not describe a different product

Before you upload again

  • The product ID belongs to this exact item.
  • The named conflicting field matches the catalog or you have a correction case open.
  • The SKU is not reused for a different product.

Questions sellers ask

Should I delete the SKU and upload it again?
Usually no. Error 8541 is a catalog matching conflict, so recreating the same SKU with the same identifier and conflicting value normally produces the same error.
What if Amazon's catalog value is wrong?
Do not submit random alternate values. Open a catalog correction case with evidence from the brand or manufacturer and include the Batch ID and the exact field shown in the report.
